Living with Giants The Asian elephant is deeply ingrained in India’s ethos. While its range across Asia has shrunk by over 70 percent, today more survive in the wild in India than in any other country. Elephants in domesticity have also been part of life here for thousands of years. One and a half years in the making, this film is a journey from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and West Bengal to the bhabar and terai wilderness of Uttaranchal’s Rajaji and Corbett National Parks, and on to the jungles of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. It explores the relationship between man and elephant, the enormous challenges faced by both in coexisting in a changing world, and how the Indian Government, under its Project Elephant programme, is facing up to these challenges.
