There will be one to three rounds of preliminary judging depending on the number of entrants in each particular category. This means each submission will be screened in its entirety by a minimum of 3 preliminary judges, and sometimes as many as 15 judges. All films are viewed via our secure password protected online viewing platform integrated with Vimeo. Finalists will be announced on approximately August 1st and August 15th for the craft categories. All finalist films will then be reviewed by our final jury, immediately prior to the Festival. Winners will be announced at our Awards Gala Celebration on September 28 at the Center for the Arts in Jackson Hole!
In 2015, we had over 150 preliminary judges from all over the world. Preliminary judges are picked based on their knowledge and qualifications in certain categories. A preliminary judge that completes 20-25 hours of viewing receive a complimentary half price pass to the 2017 Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival. A judge that competes 40 hours of viewing will receive a full pass to the Festival.
Judges must have access to a secure internet connection and a computer that can handle online video streaming. Preliminary Judges will be chosen in late May or early June. All applicants will receive an email update on their application status at that time.
