Shinichi
Murata joined NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) in 1981. With an academic
background in forestry, he produced numerous documentaries specializing in
natural history. He has extensive experience in fieldwork, and also has been
involved in various international co-productions including Wild Asia, an award-winning HD
series produced by NHK, NHNZ and Discovery Channel. In 2002, Murata was
assigned as an executive producer at NHK Enterprises, NHK’s biggest program
production arm. While at NHK Enterprises, he involved in the production of the Equator series, another HD
co-production with NHNZ as the executive producer. His recent production Satoyama: Japan’s Secret Watergarden
was awarded the “Best of Festival” at the 29th International
Wildlife Film Festival 2005 and the “Best TV Documentary of Cultural and
General Interest” at the Prix Italia 2005. Murata is now back
in the NHK headquarters and overlooks international development of NHK’s
natural history programs.
