Masahiro
Hayakawa is a Senior Producer for Natural History Programs at NHK Enterprises,
Inc. He was born in 1969 and lived in Panama until the age of 10,
becoming fluent in Spanish. He graduated from Waseda University
in Tokyo in
1993. As an undergraduate, he took part in field studies of humpback whales and
other marine mammals around Japan’s
Bonin islands, Colombia’s
Gorgona island, and Mexico’s
Baja California
region. Hayakawa
joined NHK in 1993 and was initially a producer in the Science Program Division
in Tokyo. In
1996, he was transferred to NHK’s Aomori Bureau, where he gained experience of
program-making in a wide range of genres including documentaries, news programs, live
broadcasts and
sports. In 2000, he moved to the Science and Environment Program Division in Tokyo, where he has since
worked mainly on natural-history programs. Hayakawa is
currently assigned to NHK Enterprises, NHK’s biggest program-production
affiliate. He was involved in the BBC co-production of Planet Earth.
