JANET HESS
Series Editor, NATURE
Janet is an Emmy Award
winning writer and the Series Editor of the PBS series NATURE. She joined the program in 1987 and works
closely with filmmakers and co-producers in structuring and refining almost
every Nature episode. Programs she has
written or produced for the series include
Serengeti Stories, Amazing Tales from the San
Diego Zoo, John
Denver: Let this be a Voice, Extraordinary
Cats, Diamonds, Encounters with Sea Monsters, and The Good, The Bad, and The Grizzly. She won an Emmy for
her script for Pale Male in
2005. Her latest films are Christmas in Yellowstone, nominated for
two Emmy’s this year, and In the Valley of the Wolves, premiering on NATURE November 4th
and at the Festival this year are finalists in both Animal Behavior
and Sound. Janet is a graduate of Smith College
and the Yale School of Forestry. She
serves on the Board of Directors of the International Wildlife Film Festival
and is a member of the Writers Guild of America.
