Hiromichi IWASAKI

Leading natural-history producer Hiromichi
Iwasaki joined NHK in 1984. He started his career as a programme director and
has long been involved with film-making. Since transferring to Science
Programmes Division in 1989, he has produced numerous natural-history series
including Global Family and Planet of Ocean. He is currently a
series producer for Global Family,
which has a weekly slot on NHK national television.
In
addition to producing many scientific documentary and nature programmes for NHK, Iwasaki participated in the production
of David Attenborough’s The Life of Birds
series while assigned to the BBC Natural History Unit. One of his films, Vampire from the Abyss, received the
Jules Verne Award for Best Film at the 2002 Jules Verne Film Festival, the
Prime Minister’s Prize at the 2003 Science and Technology Film/Video Festival
(in Japan), and the Adventure and Discovery Prize at the 2003 International
Scientific Audio-Visual Conference.
