Three-time Emmy Award-winner Fred Kaufman has been executive producer of the PBS
series, NATURE since 1991 and has worked on the series since its premiere in 1982.
Many of NATURE's most memorable presentations have been produced under Kaufman's
stewardship, including the acclaimed three-part miniseries Deep Jungle, the landmark eight-part Africa and the three-part miniseries
Inside the Animal Mind. In 2006, The Queen of Trees won broadcasting's highest
honor, the Peabody Award, and, at the Banff World Television Festival, the NHK President's
Prize, which recognizes excellence in high definition programming. Other noteworthy
programs have included the Emmy Award-winning The Urban Elephant,, In the Wild: Orangutans with
Julia Roberts which won a prestigious
Genesis Award for Outstanding PBS Documentary, John Denver: Let This Be a Voice and Jane Goodall's Wild Chimpanzees. Kaufman has
forged major international co-production partnerships with the BBC, National Geographic
Television and Granada Wild and collaborated with the world's foremost natural history
filmmakers. He serves on the advisory board of The Humane Society of the United
States Hollywood Division and is a member of the Directors Guild of America and
the Writer's Guild of America.
