Cathy McConnell, Producer/Writer

Artemis Productions

An Emmy-award winning filmmaker, Cathy has brought a dramatic voice, fashioned by years in the New York theatre, to natural history films.  As Series Editor for the PBS series NATURE, she developed and scripted dozens of films, including Last Stand of the Giants. As a Supervising Producer for National Geographic Television, she was responsible for all natural history co-productions, while also producing and writing National Geographic Specials.  Her first, The New Chimpanzees, received the highly coveted award for Best Animal Behavior Film at the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival, as well as the ARK Trust Award for the Best Television Film depicting man’s relationship with animals. Her National Geographic Special about the rainforest canopy, Exploring the High Frontier, won the Emmy for Outstanding Informational or Cultural Program, as well as Best Documentary at the New York Festivals, Best of Festival in the Explorer’s Club Centennial Film Festival, and many European honors. In between these projects, she produced The Family Life of Animals, an animal behavior series for Reader’s Digest.  More recently, she has written films for The Science Channel, and lent her expertise to the Wildlife Conservation Society, developing films and scripting Living with Predators, a special interest DVD produced in support of the Great Cats and Rare Canids Act, now wending its way through Congress.
